Brief Service Statement
Service has been a part of my life since I was a child; it is also what inspired me to be an academic. I want a life that contributes to others and so in addition to research that benefits people, animals and the environment, I regularly participate in professional and community service. As a public academic, I look for opportunities to contribute to my local, national and global community. Professionally this involves serving on ASA section boards, regularly serving as an ad hoc reviewer, serving on university boards and committees dedicated to diversity and student success, and engaging in a variety of other activities. In my community, this involves regular participation in community organizations that serve animals, the environment and LGBTIA+ youth, offering research expertise to community organizations, and working with local government on greening initiatives.
